The Impact of Budget Changes on Independent Community Pharmacies

The royal college of GPs has issued a warning about redundancies and pharmacy closures as a direct result of the budget changes...

Our Response to Rachel Reeves Budget

Dear Chancellor

Re: The Impact of Budget Changes on Independent Community Pharmacies

serious concerns shared by independent community pharmacies nationwide regarding the recent Budget measures. The Impact of the Budget on Pharmacies

04/11/2024
The Budget which was announced by the Treasury earlier this week is ‘wrecking ball’ to community pharmacies. We call for Employers National Insurance (NI) to be exempt to our sector. Our new analysis carried out by our members reveals that the dramatic increases in Employers NI contributions and National Minimum Wage announced in the Budget will be risking many pharmacies to go out of business. The scale of this rise in Employers National Insurance is deeply worrying. This combined with other cost increases such as the increase in the national minimum wage are further body blows to the sector which is already struggling for survival.

Our analysis suggests that the overall cost to independent community pharmacy sector would be more than £125,000,000 equating to £12,002 for an average pharmacy per annum!

At the "Pharmacy in Crisis, Call to Action Webinar" held on 25th April 2023, we asked pharmacies and their patients to send letters to their local MPs.

To this effect we have drafted template letters that you can tailor based on your own needs and add your own name and logo.

We have also drafted templates that the public can use to send to their local MP.
